Throw dust in one’s eyes

Meaning: किसी की आँखों में धूल झोंकना (धोखा देना) (to cheat somebody)

Examples:

I know what you are up to; don't try to blow smoke in my eyes.
Stop blowing smoke in my eyes; I know your motives behind this act.

Trick to memorize:

(Magicians धुँआ करके ही तो हमारी आँखों में धूल झोंकते हैं)

Cheat Sheet

Meaning: चुटका (a sheet containing information)

Examples:

Rohan got caught using a cheat sheet during the exam.
Some politicians use a cheat sheet while answering the questions by the press.

Trick to memorize:

(Have you ever made a cheat sheet?)

Take for a ride

Meaning: उल्लू बनाना / ठगना (to trick somebody)

Examples:

I paid online for a dress but it was never delivered. After a couple of weeks I realized that I had been taken for a ride.
In ‘Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety’, his girlfriend is taking him for a ride. She is not as sweet as she looks.

Trick to memorize:

(Car में बैठा के कहीं दूर ले जाकर मार देते थे)

Lose it

Meaning: दिमाग ख़राब हो जाना / कुछ समझ न आना (to lose control of your emotions / temporary anger or confusion)

Examples:

He kept asking the same question over and over, and I lost it!
If you don’t help me with this, I’m going to lose it!

Keep (one’s) hair on

Meaning: गुस्से पर काबू रखना (keep calm)

Examples:

I know she had taken you for a ride. Still, you will have to keep your hair on when you meet her.
I tried to keep my hair on but I couldn’t.

Be mad at (someone)

Meaning: किसी से गुस्सा / नाराज़ होना (to be angry at someone)

Examples:

Are you mad at me? – Yes, I’m mad at you.
Don’t be mad at me. Why are you being mad at me? What have I done?

Tick (someone) off (American Slang)

Meaning: किसी को गुस्सा दिलाना (to make someone angry)

Examples:

His attitude is really ticking me off.
It ticks me off when you speak like that.

Tick (something) off

Meaning: Tick का निशान लगाना (to make a mark next to items on a list that have been dealt with)

Examples:

As you finish each task, tick it off.
Let’s tick off the items before we go home.
Have you ticked off Meera’s name on the list?

Up and about

Meaning: चलने-फिरने लगना (to come out of bed after an illness, injury or inactivity)

Examples:

The surgery went very well, she'll be up and about soon.
I'm up and about, but I'm not really well yet.
They were all thrilled to be up and about after nine hours on a bus!

Back-room boys

Meaning: वो लोग जो कड़ी मेहनत करते हैं लेकिन कभी सामने नहीं आते (people who do important work but do not have direct contact with the public)

Examples:

The praise must be given to the back-room boys.
But I was not content to be a back-room girl / boy.
